Well gang,
I test drove a 2008 GTi with DSG yesterday afternoon, and I gotta admit it- I was pretty damn impressed. The thing handles like no other FWD drive car I've ever driven in my life and the DSG is incredibly entertaining to use. The 2.0l turbo engine was no slouch either, with instantaneous throttle response and strong power throughout the rev-band.
I found the interior to be particularly interesting with plaid cloth seats that were ridiculously comfortable and supportive. The plaid pattern resembled the original Mk1 GTi.
The star of the show however was undoubtedly the DSG. All the freedom of a manual tranny with only 2 pedals. It honestly swtiches gears as fast or faster than I could with a manual 6MT and the paddle shifters made me feel like I was playing GT4. Tons of fun to drive, but I'mm still too much of a purist to buy a FWD car. It would make a fantastic daily driver though/commuter car though.
