Since I've hogged the board with pictures of my Seven, I felt bad and decided to post some shots of our 528it wagon. My wife (Catmint) drives this one most of the time and I'm sure she'll start her own photo thread or add to this one at some point.

You'll notice the damage under the front bumper. How difficult do you think it would be to find a bumper similar to what the 3 touring 4ngie posted in the girl's section for our 5 series? Is that an M bumper?

I don't know much about the 5's, but the bumper on the 3 series that I posted is an Mtech II bumper.

I love that car! Looks great. As far as the damage, it is easy to just fix it....but a Mtech front bumper would look awesome.

So where do you get a cool tag like that for the front?

Actually, I got mine at licenseplates.tv

I have no idea what the .tv stands for but it's a cool site with lots of options for license plates. Was shipped quickly and they even gave me a 10% off coupon for another order (when MisterTripps is ready to tag Seven...)

How do you fix it?

And approximately how much is an Mtech bumper and can we install it ourselves? Are we talking like a few hundred or over a thousand?

I'd be just as happy to fix it, though, for now. Until I start doing some serious mods (if any).

just saw this thread, thought id lend some advice:

the mtech front bumper is perhaps one of the most sought-after mods for any e39. it depends how you want to go about it:

if you go OEM, it will typically cost upwards of 900. dont forget primer and paint. THEN dont forget about the different fog lights, bumper strips, mesh grille (or t-bar, depending on your preference). misc parts (air ducts, grommets, etc). typically people pay about 150-300 for paint.

there are only two aftermarket options i would consider as a value: one being the m kit from euro-spec, which comes with all the stuff you need, and it will end up being about 450 to 500 shipped - not including paint of course. ive seen excellent installs of this many many times.

the other i would consider is umnitza, but less so than euro-spec, just because of the fact that i havent seen many of these yet - they are fairly new to the market. they run about 450 or so as well as they offer it without the fogs for like 419 but you need those too, so its pointless unless you are simply replacing an m bumper. but i do know the company, and they are pretty decent. even if there are problems, they take care of you.

bekkers is also an option, but pretty damn expensive.

i was planning on doing this, but have since decided to simply go with an aero kit as it is far cheaper and i can most likely paint it myself (with relative accuracy, not necessarily perfect).

keep in mind though, aftermarket is aftermarket - decent stuff, but its not 100 percent all the time. id say they USUALLY look about 98 percent perfect to a trained eye. sometimes far less, sometimes totally perfect.

and yes, you can do it yourself - its not the easiest thing in the world, and will take some time and patience, but its a possibility for most people.

Thanks for the info, Hoss. I guess I was expecting it to be around $1K for the Mtech. I would never dream of installing a brand new bumper myself, especially if it requires painting. But I think for now I will repair the damage on the existing bumper. Although every time I see a car with those cute round fog lights.....

This was taken on my dad's place in North Alabama. Sometimes, black and white photos are so cool....
