Firstly, I never wash the car in direct sunlight and I never park a wet car in direct sunlight (that will give you water spots). I let the car drip dry for about 10-15 minutes, then I wipe dry with a microfiber towel.
What are you methods of a safe dry?

I use a "California Water Blade" followed up with a microfiber shammy. Then I take a quick blast up the highway to blow loose water hidden in nooks and crannys, and re-shammy as needed.

Call me extravagent but I usually arrange for a group of about 25-30 Bavarian virgins to be sent directly to my apartment, so that as soon as I'm done washing my car I can have them all blow on it until it's dry.
And then I send them back to Germany.
It isn't the cheapest method, but only the best for my Bimmer.

I spray the whole car down with Meguiar's Quick Detailer, then use a mcrofiber towel to dry it. I'll sometimes use the air tool to get the water out of the mirrors, etc if I need to.

If we had water...........ha........... Typically I'd run the hose with nozzle off to sheet the water off the car first, then microfiber the remaining that is left. (I'll also use the compressor to force some air around the mirrors, under the door jams...etc).
Next year Im just gonna spring for a CR Spotless system (you can get at BJ's also I think), where 99% of the water is just gonna run off and will not spot. Then micro fiber.............but I'll admit I try to keep my cars out of the rain if possible. (what can I say).
I also think the soap used contributes alot to it. I've had great luck with Zymol's ClearBathe. (if only they could spell :) )

I wish I had the shade to dry my car. I let it drip dry for about the same time and dry with a microfiber towel though. Lets just say It takes about the same time to dry the car and wash the car. Then I detail the outside every time.

Working at the post office, I'm used to dealing with a moody public. So when one irate customer stormed my desk, I responded in my calmest voice, "What's the trouble?" "I went out this morning," she began, "and when I came home I found a card saying the mailman tried to deliver a package but no one was home. My husband was in all morning. He never heard a thing!" After apologizing, I got her parcel. "Oh, good," she gushed. "We've been waiting for this for ages." "What is it?" I asked. "My husband's new hearing aid."----------------------------------Do you look for free wow gold? Quick hit with the leaf blower followed by a shami.
Or I just go get a jug of RO water from out back(benifits of being a fish guy) and rinse with that and walk away. No crap in the water = no spots!

Anything over 100mph, and my car dries out in a few.

Well that is a pretty nice tips you have given how to wash a car correctly. I never manually wash the car in the house, because we usually go to the car wash and just run it afterward.
