My transmission blew up!

Well, yesterday on the way home my automatic in my 1994 325is blew up nicely. Each gear went out with a huge thud. I was able to get home. Lost 4th, then 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st. SUUUUUUUUUCKS. Anyone know of a good used or rebuilt automatic for a E36?

Why not just go with a manual swap while you're at it? Aren't BMW autos not that durable? Of course, I might be generalizing, but just saying...

Yes I've also heard that the older BMW automatics are not exactly sturdy. All my other cars are manual shifts, so I kinda like having my daily to be an automatic. Sucks man, this ain't gonna be cheap! :(

Wouldn't it be cheaper to find a scrapper auto-E36 and just bum the transmission from that. I mean, you find those bad boys on CL for like 800-1200 bucks all the time . . .

That's what I found just looking at the first few links I pulled up on CL. Seems almost cheaper when you consider the other parts you'd be getting as well if you're just going to be using one of these cars for the transmission :)

Sweet thanks David! I think I might just end up getting a used slushbox from Strictly German for $700-$800. AAMCO wants over $2500 to fix the car, I almost fell down. I gotta crawl under the car and get the VIN #s off the transmission.
