Ok everyone, I'm about to tell you my secret leather conditioning treatment that really works well. I use Lexol cleaner and conditioner. Just like the Zymol wax, I put the Lexol on with my bare hand. You can always feels sand or grit on your bare hand. Its eqully important with paint and leather.

You must dust and lightly clean the leather is it is dusty or has food and crap on it. THEN put a generous amount in the palm of your hand and rub it in. Don't just apply it, massage it into your leather. It will soak it up. I usually do this 2-3 times until the leather does not soak anymore conditioner in. THEN I let the final coat sit in the leather for at least an hour, sometimes over night.

I remove and buff the rest off with a microfiber towel. This process makes the leather so supple and soft and the Lexol renews that awesome leather smell. I've done this in my BMW, Porsche and Ferrari. Do you guys have a special way of working with your leather? What products do you use?

Wow, thanks for the tip! I just got the Lexol cleaner and the conditioner and just used it per the bottle instructions with the damp cloth. I like the sound of your method better! This is the first time I've had leather seats, so I'm happy to hear all the tips you've got!

Hmmm. I am gonna try the hand application method, sounds interesting.
Now, I use a brush to apply the conditioner following a good cleaning. I leave the conditioner on for at least 24 hours during my applications. I go through a ton of the conditioner, especially on the six which interior is COMPLETELY leather.

another great use for lexol is that it makes things stick for a little bit of time. so if you are sliding out of your leather seats under heavy cornering, try some on the leather and you will stick in your seat during track days. And your leather will look great afterwords. it works as well on leather covered stearing wheels.

I had to speak up here. Funny you should ask.

I just did this last night on my seven's seats. I was more out of need, than a regular cleaning. Last night on the way home from work, I spilled a cup of my favorite beverage on my seat whilst I was trying to hold it between my legs. Yes, I know, USE THE CUP HOLDER.
Anyway, I decided to give the seats a good cleaning and apply some conditioner. The hand application worked well as far as I can tell. I did only apply one coat though, as I had to drive it again this morning and it was getting a little late last night. So, I will definitely do it again.

The oooooooonly thing I can say is not so good is that upon finishing and wiping off my hands, I went back into my house where my wife immediately looked at me and curled her nose and said 'YOU SMELL LIKE A LEATHER FACTORY ... EWWWWWWW!' (she does not share my enthusiasim for cars).

So, thanks to Mitch, I slept on the futon last night, ah well, it was for a good cause, and I would STILL do it again. The futons more comfortable anyway. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/lsixer/dunno-1.gif

What favorite beverage is that? ;)

And here's another question: WHAT cup holders?!? Does the cup holder situation in Bimmers improve after the E39?

The e38 has a pop-out dual cup holder right under the radio. It works fine, just wasnt thinking as usual ... http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w245/lsixer/shakehead-1.gif

Oh, my E39 has the same one (well, not as fancy) and it's in such a crappy place for a cup holder. I've got my XM radio sitting in front of it right now.

Hey Cindy, funny you mention XM Radio, I've got my XM in the same exact place, in front of those useless cup holders.

You are right about the smell Lsixer, but it makes your hands sooo soft! :)

At least the previous owner of my car sprung (sprang?) for the $100 burlwood after-market cupholder that goes on the center console. I don't drink a lot in my car anymore anyway, so I've got a cup-holder organizer thing in it for my phone and sunglasses.

Years ago I bought a Ford Escape the year they came out...not a single cupholder! And it was a manual transmission, so I didn't have room for one of those cheesy center consoles you can get at Walmart. Cupholders always seem like a last-minute thing with car manufacturers. "Oh yeah, forgot those, let's just add them wherever there's an extra 3 millimeters of space."

I looked through all the posts on Lexol treatment No one said how often you do it. I had new Leather put on my e36's seats, The guy that did it said if you use Lexol to much it will dry out the Leather. So how often do I treat it?

My leather needs some serious lovin, I might try the "leave it on over night" trick this weekend.
