For me it was a total fluke. I was living in Queens NY and took public transportation to work everyday like most people in the city. So, I was looking for an autocross slut. My neighbor had an 87 325IS that was fairly rough, and he wanted waaaay too much for it. So, I found a G60 Corrado in Colorado and bought my plane ticket to fly out and pick it up. The day before I lwas supposed to go get the car the neighbor came to me saying he got hit hard on his taxes and needed to unload the car quickly, and dropped the price to $4500. I drove the car, I'm a Porsche boy and never loved the E30 until my very first drive. But, after that first drive I was hooked and gave him cash immediately following the test drive.
Then I modded the **** out of it and thus started my autocross addiction. I think I can take credit for at least starting Mitch down the Path of both Porsche and BMW ownership, just as he got me into the Vdubs with his GTI. I dont know if that is a good thing or not....

Well Mitch had alot to do with me getting my M3. At the time i was looking to get a s14 240sx with an Sr20det swapped in or the E36 M3. When i told him that he really made me realise that the M3 was a way better car! So the next day i went and drove one and fell in love with it. I had always loved Bimmers in the past and i am glad that i own one now thanks Mitch.

Well, oddly enough, I was in Queens, NY as well when I bought my E30 Eta. She was an absolute dream.
The reason why I bought her was because I started to admire the precision of BMW, but really didn't have a full grasp as to why people felt so passionately about them. I liked the E30 (still do to this day) and decided to give one a try. I bought the Eta, started driving it and immediately fell in love with how wholistically responsive it was. Very awesome ride, even on the track it performed at it's best, even though people told me it would be slow, it still managed to pass some others on the straights and definitely was able to toss itself into the turns, so my journey into Bavarian Motors began...
To this day, to say "Black Stig is racing today" is to put in the minds of people young an old the vision of a BMW (insert series here) running rampantly through the esses and carressing the graces of decreasing radius sweepers.
*sigh*
I love these cars!

Where in Queens were you? I lived in Bayside for the better part of a decade while starting my career on Wall St. We had a pretty decent club, about 50 members from all of the boroughs and Long Island called the Blitzkrieg Bimmers. We were a bunch of hooligans, really. Mitch's first night with his Ferarri 308 was spent at a club meeting. Needless to say, he stole the show.
You hit the nail on the head, BlackStig. I never really understood just what was so special about these cars until my very first drive in one. My old E30 is still the measuring stick I guage all of my cars performance by. That's saying something given the vast range of cars that I've owned.

I lived in Saint Albans, I was a Network Technician for Cablevision when I bought my E30, the money I saved buying an E30 immediately went into fixing it back up to stock, and then beyond. But man . . . I loved that car soooooooo much, I can't wait until I buy another. I'm actually deciding, as Mitch already knows, between buying a 3 series or a Porsche next winter.
Oh well, we'll see . . .
Bayside is nice, you guys must have had some serious cash, I wish I had that kind of money :(
LOL!

Actually, we had a tiny apartment in Bayside and moved to CT to save money...as unbelievable as it sounds. What I paid in rent on a 2 bedroom apartment with a 2 car garage dwarfs my mortgage and part of my car payment. Not to mention, a 12 mile commute from Queens to Wall St took over 2 hours in each direction. Spending 4 hours a day on buses and trains was killing me.

Well Machschnell had a lot to do with my BMW obsession! He is the reason for my condition! His 325is was sooo much fun and fast as hell. Then another friend still has his E30 M3, and he also got me into BMWs. Today, I've gotten my brother, my wife and several of my friends into BMWs. THey are simply amazing cars and are built like tanks!! THANKS MACH! :)

It was 1971, and I was riding a motorcycle all year long (quite a feat up here in Canada!).
A friend took pity on me one rainy, cold day, and lent me his almost-brand-new '71 2002 (specially ordered with a then-unheard-of 5 speed and limited slip) to make a short run back to school. I'd never heard of BMW, and I'd never driven a car as responsive and solid feeling.
I ordered one almost immediately; and have driven them exclusively since 1972 (except for a brief stint in something American and ****ty when I got married and needed a down payment on my first house). Although I am no longer in touch with that wonderful friend, I owe him a life of automotive exuberance.

Well I am not sure when I first saw a BMW but I remember seeing them here and there and always liked what I saw, particularly 2002's and E30's. While in Alaska a friend of mine was restoring a Bavaria and it looked so cool. We took a ride one day and the ride was so smooth and that engine hummed so nice. I knew then that these were special cars.
About four years ago it just came out of no where and I decided I had to have a BMW. For two years I learned as much as I could about the ins and out of the E36 but I was too lazy to save any money. I finally saved a few bucks and found a good deal and its in the garage getting ready for a clutch but thats after a year of driving. Since then I have bought four E30's and I think I will stay with E30's for a long time but I do plan on adding an E46 soon. My next car that will never be sold is an E30 M3 though. I might just go get one next year....I deserve it!
I have owned a lot of different kinds of cars but truly have never felt so attached to a brand. I love this ****! People think I am nuts but they do not drive BMW's either.

Lets see, my love with them started when I did a track event with Mitch's friend with the E30 M3. It was increadibly solid and responsive for a NA 4 banger, then on the ride back home in the rain it was simply a great car to be in.
I was pretty sure my next car would be a M3, then Mitchy got that 540 and I was utterly amazed at what it did being so big.
Then after the demise of my corrado I did a bunch of reaserch and simply couldnt fine anything even remotly close to the M3 in price or following so after months of searching I got one.
First drive I was in love. I really didnt think I would find something I loved to drive as much as that corrado, but after some sway bars and struts it handles even better and is SOOO much more comfortable.

Hell yeah, Danny!!
BTW, where the hell is Craig (said owner of above referenced E30 M3)???

Craig is a member on here, he just signed up yesterday. His user name is mmmhmmm! He still has his E30 M3, although no one would ever recognize what he did to it. Here is a pic of Craigs E30 M3, it looks AMAZING!

Most of the local people big time JDM. Did not want to follow the masses into Honda and Nissan. Picked up the E36 not really knowing what I was getting into at the time. Over all have to say enjoy the ride. Looking forward to getting a 135i some time around mid march this next year.
(Have to admit the cost factor would have been less in the Honda/Nissan then the amount I have spent on my BMW)
