You'll have much better luck looking up north. There are barely any IX's in the south because they didn't really sell here.

I know the chance of finding one localy at good price is low but worth a shot to look around.

True. Prepare to pay. I saw a rust-free 5spd 325IX on CL a few weeks ago in SC or maybe NC and it was ~$8500. That's an expensive e30.

There was an E46 AWD wagon FS on the bimmerforum for 8500 so.....

Really looking to spend around 2k. I saw one last year for 900 that needed a motor but I wasnt wanting one then.

Meh, e46 xi's are nothing special.

I really don't think you will find a rust free running IX for under 3k. Me and Dom went and looked at one about a month ago and it had been in storge for over 5 years because it was in a slght wreck (still not fixed), Also the car didn't run and had rust. He was asking 3k firm.

Can you elaborate?

Can you elaborate?

They aren't as cool or exciting as e30 xi's. I dunno. I guess it's personal preference.

I have recently seen a silver one on Craigslist somewhere in Atlanta, I'll see if I can track down any more info.

I've seen BMW IX vehicles perform, and without trying to sound as if I'm belittling BMW, it just doesn't seem as if anything from BMW in AWD is any fun. I mean, I know they've rallied the X5 and IX E30s before, but to be honest, the vehicles seem more utilitarian than anything else. Compare the AWD behavior of a 325ix to say a Subaru Impreza or even a Celica All-Trac/GT4.

It seems like it was made less for going around corners and more for climibing hills in the wet.

Oh really? I havent driven an AWD BMW yet. I have driven a wrx but it felt gutless down low. The traction was pretty good, more body sway than a bimmer but you could reallly feel the grip when pushing it.

Drive an STi, I drove a 2001 2.5RS and a 2006 STi . . .let me just say, it really makes me want to go back in time and drive a 22b . . .those cars are phenomenal but tend to push over the front wheels when REALLY giving it the business. I drove an Evo VIII and was impressed by that. It actually enjoyed bringing the tail end around, and the active yaw control really does keep things in line when you're corner hugging.

I'm not sure what the purpose of your iX would be, to be honest, but if it's for performance, I think you'd be better suited going Japanese or just buying a rear drive E30.

-Dave

EDIT!!!! That's just my opinion, I don't want anyone to think I'm Bimmer Bashing again . . . *sigh*

Are we really comparing an impreza from the late 90's and STi from late 2000's to a mid to late 80's AWD e30?

I will agree... e30 AWD... meh

I want an AWD E30, but only in stick, which is really rare. And I would only get that if I lived up north for the snow.

Well I am moving up north next year. My rsx is gonna be the winter beater but I would prefer an AWD car. I would love to drive an EVO, never driven one just worked on one.

The STI and the EVO are way too "loud" for my taste. I dont like the kind of attention the bring. However I would consider a 2005 up legacy witht the detuned 2.5 as a compromise.

All these cars are priced around 15-20k. I would have to wait untill 2010 before I buy one of those.

Very true on your last statement, but 20k for a car made this century vs 4k-8k for a car that's 3 years younger than me, LOL! Yeah, the market has done them well (although Kelly and the NADA tend to speak otherwise) and they are reliable. I just think in different terms I guess and that's what keeps getting me in trouble with the Club Bimmer natives.

Do what you do, when you find an IX and buy it, let us know and keep us updated, I wanna see some snow-drift pics/vids, LOL!

Well I am finding quite a few AWD E46's for less than 10k. If I sold the rsx I could buy one of those. But again I havent driven one yet.

I would consider the audi tt as well.

I would definitely say drive it before you buy it. You may sell your RSX, drive the E46 and love it . . .orrrrr . . . you may sell the RSX, drive the E46, and really wish you hadn't sold your RSX, LOL!

If I were you I would get a WRX sedan w/out the spoiler. Perfect compromise of performance and sportiness without ridiculous 15 year old boy styling.

No, you bought an E36 M3, same principle, different practice . . .

Psshhh...
Right. Because I guess somehow e36 M3 styling is comparable to an STi or Evo then.
I couldn't have possibly bought it because it was the best handling car in my price range.

You guys are lame. I would love an STi with the ridiculous styling. It is part of the car.

As for the AWD E46, I think that might be a really good bet.
