OH NO!
This is a BMW forum
you can't post that Dodge trash
Even though it will out perform any BMW on the market
Even though it's price comparatively low for the money
Even though Viper has always been synonymous with performance from drag racing to the Le Mans GT Class
Now Philip or Wayne will pop in and mention some BMW, because this is a BMW forum
Then I'll spout off some random fact about how the well roundedness of a BMW holds it back on the track .
Then I'll get a PM from Mitch telling me to "cool it" because this is a BMW forum and all other car makes and models are taboo.
F*ck this place . . .

Vipers are brutally majestic. Wait . . .let me rephrase that . . .Vipers are brutal . . .that's about it. Men love torque and sexy cars, and the Viper happens to be a culmination of the two. You don't get much better than that, especially now, especially for the MONEY!
The Corvette team shot itself in the foot with the price of the new ZR1 and the estimated prices of the Z06. They're going to have to bring something BIG to the table to shut Chrysler down for 2009 and 2010.
Ford is stepping up for 2010 though, the new MUSTANGS (:001_wub:) will be . . .
V6, Twin-Turbo, 300hp
V8, Non-Turbo, 400-450hp
Yes . . . put that in your Camaro and smoke it.

I thought the Camaro is suppose to make 300HP with a N/A V6  It takes Ford two turbos to make 300HP, but Chevy can do that N/A with direct injection.... Also i think the Top motor in the Camaro is going to make 416HP with the LS3 anyway...

The viper is an amazing machine. So raw and brutal(good word).
96 GTS is the best looking. Performance wise the new ones are just killer. I have had the joy in driving an old viper and man what an experience. The lower gears are close to worthless. So easy to get wheel spin and despite what many BMW owners think you may not be able to take it in the twisties. Does it handle bad? Not really. It is just twitchy and the edge is razor thin. You have to drive in those conditions but once you get it down man it is a fun ride!

I know all about them, I was just funnin, remember, my first car was a Camaro, so I'll love them for LIFE! Also, 300hp from an NA is nice, if you don't want to go much further. 300hp from a factory twin-turbo means you'll be netting 330 with no bolt ons, just flashing stuff. A reflash will probably bring you up around 400 if the turbos are BMW-style electronically controlled.

You also have to remember, Halston, you're an exceptional driver with exceptional talents. Most who drive these cars don't posess the talent so they spend the money to make up for it. When they realize the Viper bites back, they say "oh, well I prefer X car anyway".
I liken the experience to my car, yeah, it doesn't handle well if you're thinking you can just finess it into a turn, my car has to be pretty much manhandled to drive properly, but as you said, once you get it down, you can have just as much fun, if not more, in the twisties.
I still want to get an older Viper for drifting though, just for the lulz.

well for 2009 yes, 2010 will quite possibly be a negative on competition from Chrysler as the "new" Chrysler is stopping production of the Viper. They claim that it is not profitable enough to keep in production :(

I know. It makes me sad, Vipers are like the only American cars made in the last 30 years that really get me excited. They are definitely catching up though, even Top Gear agrees.

I was actually wrong, it is 40 seconds. And they said it would have been running in the teens with more than a day of runs/adjustments.
It is also about 20 seconds faster than any time I have seen posted for a Veyron, not sure how accurate that is. And it is about 3 seconds faster than the GT-R V-Type concepts they have been running.

You are a smart man Philip. Funny thing with Ford is how easy it is to get power for NA V8 motors. The current GT can gain 50HP easily costing less than $2k.
No doubt that TTV6 can be tuned to outrun a V8. Ford has had both motor designs in the work for a long time. The TT motor is not official YET.

Well from the factory it won't be and I think that's what they're shooting for, to eliminate the V8. Hey that rhymed . . .
The V8 is what makes American Muscle . . .well American Muscle, but the twin-turbo thing is going to appeal not only to the younger tuner crowd but to the more mature crowd who likes to tinker out-of-the-box.
We had a pretty good discussion on this at the last drift event and I think, if anything, JR will probably run a turbo V8, but a lot of people seem to think the Twin-turbo V6 will be JR's new weapon, if it is, the V8 will be on it's way out the door.
Without boosting the V8 there won't be a reason for it :(

That V8 is not for the stock GT. It is going to be for the Performance model (Cobra, Boss, Bullitt). It is actually being mass produced for the truck line (F-150 mostly). I think Ford has decided to eventually phase the TT V6 in as the GT engine.

I would believe it. NA V6 and TT V6. Then V8 is a truck motor with some power. They HAVE to cut cost and cut it now.
If they don't then All 3 US Auto Makers are DEAD.
Really they should JUST make a NA V6 and a TT V6. You lose money making Saleen Cobra and all that bull****. How many are you REALLY going to sell and how much did it cost to produce them?
Just like the ZR1... Why? So you can 'beat Germany' while you go out of business?
Corvette should come with no options. Here is your Corvette. It is a 500hp V8 and either 6 speed manual or slushbox. No other options.

Fixed. Actually, I guess the slushbox is alright, but I prefer the 6 speed. I do remember reading one of those letters in R&T or C&D and the person was asking why the Viper doesn't come with an auto. They said that the Vette sold more because it did. Stupid people like that make me angry.

Vipers, from the factory and in the hands of a proper driver, handle very well actually. As Halston already mentioned, it just takes getting used to. Once you tame the snake it's a very rewarding drive that can out handle a LOT of vehicles on the market today.
But then again, I'm just a dumb Obama supporter who drives a Mustang so everything that can turn can handle in my opinion, what do I know?

two points.
1. in the right hands your grandma can handle well, but most people are not that experianced....nor want to be:blink:
2. handling means sticking to the road, when the ass is out and tires are smoking that is not handling. Its fun, but its not handling.

I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to proper driving, like I said, I'm not a BMW guy anymore, I'm a Mustang owner, it's AWL STRATE LYNE FER ME BOYS YEEEE HAAAWWWW GIT R DUN!
All I'm saying is, the Viper gets a bad reputation because people can't drive the thing. No offense but it doesn't have anything fancy to keep it inline safe for a fuelcut traction control system. No ASM, DTS, DSC, DSS, DRS, SBS, More BS. It's pure driving. I'm sure if I looked up wrecked BMW's there'd be some haymakers as well from people who decided stabilty management + traction control = I'm a badass driver.
Then there are cars like the new GTR with it's Active AWD and the new SH-AWD from Acura and Evo VIII and up AWD systems which make drivers with even the most PATHETIC amount of car control look like driving gods. It's really pretty on paper and it looks cool from the outside but if you put those same drivers in the hands of a real car with all that crap either non-existent or disabled . . .they can't drive.
I'm sorry, but if you need 3,000 sensors and computers to tell your car what to do in a turn, you can't drive and NO my opinion on that will not change.
