We hated to do it, but with the baby coming and three other kids to deal with (at least on a part time basis), we had to trade out of the wagon last week. But, we stuck with German engineering, or at least the Chrysler collaboration with VW on a minivan.

I'll post up some pictures later.

Hey Sebastian! Thanks. I'll try to get some pics up tonight. We definitely bought the first Routan sold by Heritage VW and possibly the first one in Atlanta. We got the first one off the truck....

And yes, still one Bimmer in the garage.

Thanks! Somehow, that doesn't sound quite as exciting as "Congrats on the new Bimmer!" :o

Cool.. Heritage, Thornton Road right?

Went on VW's site, looks pretty nice, the rear actually reminds of the Honda Odyssey.. Which model did you get, SE, SEL, Premium? I like the dual 9" screen monitors w/ the NAV/entertainment option.. :)

Yeah, Thornton Road. We got the SE - no NAV or entertainment package. We've already got a portable DVD player, so there was no need.

It is actually built on the same platform as the Chrysler Town & Country.

I hate this car just because of the commercials. I am sure it is a really good car though. Sad to see the wagon go though.

I remember the old VW van was called the Sharon. The Routan looks pretty darn cool, I hope they have the price point in the right place, otherwise its another Phaeton.

meh...

I hate minivans, all of them.

Congrats on the purchase though. I'm surprised dealers (primarily the finance companies the dealers go thru) are still letting people buy (finance), lease, and trade in their old cars.

It is a car that works for some people.

Dealers have to keep new car sales up. They have to. No reason not to finance someone that has the means to make the payments.

We had two mini vans totally 12 years of good experience. Financing purchases for only people who can make their payments!!! What a novel idea! The next thing you know, people will start buying stock only in companies that make a profit. Silly people, didn't Clinton's new economy teach you anything.

When we got the Toureg I tried to talk my wife into waiting for either the Touran or the Tiguan. Couldn't make it happen as her old truck was comming off lease.

I would dig owning a mini van, but that is of course because I would only drive it when I needed a mini van and it would be hers for daily driving. My wife is a driver, she won't go for a van.

I'm eager to see some interior shots. Then again, my GTI is going in for service once again in a week. I'm sure I'll see one of them then.

I hope you got an extended warranty...hehehe

Ha yeah getting a minivan can be a good or bad thing depending on if its your car or her car!

That's true, lol. After looking at te way the front end is designed, it looks like that new Audi that drove by me this morning. That's good for you, bad for the guy who has the Audi!

My wife and I definately like our Vdubs, I think we've had 6 of them if you include my old Audi A4 (which was basically a passat with a nice interior).

My buddy says is best when it comes to VW ownership. You'll hate it before you love it. So true.

I had a '99 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro, nice car, not enough pickup on that 6 banger. It did have a very nice interior comfortable seats, etc.

The 1.8T guys however, were having all the fun then and probably still are (well, 2.0T now). :) There were more options on those engines for more powah, APR!!

Imagine if you Corrado(green) had a warranty while you owned it.

My A4 was 1.8T with APR software, forge blowoff valve and 2.5 cat back. It was quick, but nothing serious. Once it was lowered it handled like crazy.

Needed a 7-passenger vehicle. No need to get rid of the Bimmer wagon if we were going to go for a Jetta. :)

Sorry no pictures yet. Real life getting in the way. I will take some interior shots as well.

And, it is "her" car. I'm still driving the 330i Sedan.

Here are the long-awaited photos of our new ride:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9120.jpg
As you can see, it has a very similar profile to the Dodge Grand Caravan or Chrysler Town & Country.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9121.jpg
I would love to change out the wheels to something a little more sporty, but it is a minivan....

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9122.jpg
The shifter is on the dash which is taking some time to remember.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9123.jpg
Split captain's chairs on the middle row is a great option instead of the old bench seat.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9124.jpg
60/40 split rear row bench is nice for going to the hardware store or nursery.

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9125.jpg
One of the coolest features is the "tailgate party" seats. The rear seats recline completely over the gate to provide comfortable seating around a cooler....

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p310/mistertripps/VW%20Routan/DSCN9126.jpg
And, it fits nicely in the garage right beside the E46!

Can you get a 21 window with surfboard carrier? Maybe a Westie with a pop up camper? VW really should hang on to the few good ideas to come from the hippie era.

A 2009 21 window van w/ pop-out safari windshield would definitely rock.
