Hi,

I just joined and I thought I would stop by and introduce myself. I just got a Hellrot Red 1997 3/2/5 and love it to death. It is my first E36 and found it better than many other things I have driven. The car is completely stock with 170k on the clock. Runs like a champ and does exactly what it should. I am trying to get some pictures, but it just hasn't happened yet. If anything is going on in downtown Atlanta I will try to be there.
Looks like a great forum, and I'm excited to get posting....

Alex

Thanks everyone. A drop maybe in the near future. Before that is a UUC short shift.
Mitch, I do love it already. It actually starts and runs and does what it should, unlike my Alfas.

but not running and having wiring problems ARE what alfas do!

Short Shift, just makes the moneyshift all more possible.

Drop and sway bars!

Oh I know thats what they do, but I just love the fact that I can get in it and first turn over it comes to life. Don't get me wrong my Alfas are my first love.
I'm not too worried about the moneyshift. I don't quick shift or anything. I just need to clean up the shifter. It feels like a limp fish when it moves back and forth. I also have the fifth gear stick. I hope that will help get rid of that too.

Sorry for the late response. I don't care what you paid for your unmolested hellrot, you got a steal. I love your car. Any mod you do is because you want it which seems rare these days.

Too easy.:shifty:

As long as you know what you in for then go for it!

Planning anything else?

I'm really trying to keep it as stock as possible with little things that will help. This was a dream car of mine for a long time and so I made sure I got it. Just taking it easy for now. Exhaust will be soon too.

Fifth gear indent problem. The short shifter will not fix that.

You may want to try a fully fresh rebuilt shifter. Not many people know what a fresh from BMW E36 M3 shifter feels/performs like.

Try a rebuild :) Replace all the parts and you can start from scratch.

Could I do both? I just love the feel of a short shift.

Yes you could, rebuild a full shifter minus the lever and then buy a kit from UUC :)

That's what I did, but instead of buying a UUC lever I used from a Z3 M Roadster.

How hard is it to rebuild the shifter? My buddy and I were going to put the short shift in. How long would both take?

I was thinking Redline, since that is what we have in the Alfas.

You will be happy with either one, I went ahead and did the diff oil as well.

Makes shifting nice and smooth.

The order of this post is funny. It makes it sound like putting redline in the diff makes it shift smooth.

I didn't feel any difference. I have a brand new trans though so maybe that is the difference.

Is there a list floating around on the web somewhere for what I need? I'm sure I can find things one by one, but maybe someone has it already.

yeah I noticed a differance when did my tranny fluid. But as you said, that was after 115k on the original oil.

Cant tell ya what redline you need but you want, but for RP you want syncromax.

EDIT : oh I see, yeah thats the ADD kicking in there....

Oh it is great. I am so happy that we all have gas again. I did the shifter rebuild which makes everything that much better. I think this weekend maybe a trip up to the Braselton to the junk yard. Need new tyres, so those will be fun to find. In other words, I love every second of it.
