So basically on Monday morning, my dad and I went up to Upstate NY to visit some colleges and see old friends. I thought I would start a thread about it because you think a lot when you drive that much.

I-81 in NY is one of the best roads I have driven on in this country. It is 2 lanes, basically straight/slightly curved the whole way through scenic NY, and we saw 2 cops the entire time on it. One was escorting a wide load and the other was in a rest area. We could have been doing like 120 the whole way.

I hate Virginia. That state takes up 5 hours of the 14 hour drive I had, so it gets real boring, real quick.

Virginia Tech is really nice. At first I was just going to apply there because it is in the area and I want to do Mechanical Engineering, but I really liked it. Ditto for Columbia, I was really blown away there. Even if I had to walk 35 minutes through Harlem to get there.

And I was thinking about the ideal car for long trips and this is what I came up with.
1 or 2 people with light luggage: Aston Martin DBS or DB9
2-4 people: E39 or E60 M5, whichever you prefer
4-5 people with a lot of luggage: E38 or E66

Virginia is an awesome state, so don't know what your issue is with it. Perhaps you just need to live a little more.

I'm going to say for 4 -5 people, I would go with an E53 4.8is with all the M goodies, lowered on coilovers.
Don't knock it till you drive one. Those things are unbelievable vehicles.

Yeah, I just get annoyed with it, because I am in it for so long.

You would take an X5 over a 7?

Well maybe it is just my hate of SUV's unless they are used for towing stuff.

And I change it from a normal 7 to an Alpina B7.

E65s are boats and they are not at all fun to drive. E53's are bad ass.
Now I would take an E38 M sport over both though.

Best cruiser is a X5 4.6/4.8 w/ Dinan blower.

Cruise where ever you need to go!
