Maybe Water Pump going out. OEM ones don't last long.

Do they put the cars on a dyno testing maching when doing the MOT tests? The car might have gotten hot during the test? If not check to see if the hole on the water pump housing is leaking? Or your fans could have stopped? We need more info!

Brakes will not make engine overheat. You have a cooling problem.

i agree that i do have a serious cooling problem lol! the front brake caliper has totally seized, as when i was driving back the car couldnt go anything over 40 mph.i jacked the car up and that wheel is jammed right on. reply to mitchs answer yes the car did go on a dyno,i have had a good examination of the engine bay, and there are signs of corrosion around the water inlet to the main block,i havnt yet tested if the thermostat is ok or not, i expect it isnt lol!.any more ideas fokes, if you know what may of went wrong? i think it was a chain of events all at once! cheers.
