Anyone here planning to go to this event in Marietta? It doesn't appear that many BMWs attend the local SCCA events. What's the difference? Seat time is seat time, right? The more the better!

A friend of mine runs with the SCCA. I may go. He drives a Blue Subaru.

Because we get over 200 entires at Atlanta Region Events we cannot do six runs like BMWCCA. BMWCCA usually caps their events at 60 entries which makes for a much less hectic day.

Both SCCA and BMWCCA got kicked out of gwinett co fairgrounds last year due to our friends in PCA running full track cars and various people driving up and down sugarloaf like teenage ricers :nono:. So right now BMWCCA runs at a small lot in Marrietta (which Jay P still does great courses on). However SCCA runs at larger venues like Turner Field and AMS.

However the higher levels of autox (see National Tour and National Champsionship) require you "get it done" in three runs so it's good to focus on competition like that during Atlanta Region events. However if you go to smaller regions like Alabama SCCA or MidGA SCCA you'll get 6 runs but you'll be there for most of the day as well.

Meredith,

How many runs do you typically get in at the Atlanta SCCA events? When I was doing events in Savannah, we'd usually get 5-6 runs, but the groups were usually small and the entire event was pretty laid back.

You'll get 4 runs; trust me we would love to get in more but that's what happens when your average event has 220 people showing up to run. However being in a large region does have it benefits, we have a ton of national trophy winners. Last year alone we had about 35 people attend nationals from our region and they brought home 7 trophies. That means there are a lot of people around to help you get better and the local competition is almost as good as going to nationals its self. Hope to see you there!

Yes, this sounds much different than what I'm used to. Sounds like it will be fun though! Looking forward to coming out.

Yeah definitely, I frequent many smaller regions like MidGA and it's nice to go a event that's bit less hectic it still has it's trade offs. While some people think Atlanta Region might be a big faceless autoxing machine, everyone is really super nice. I first started autoxing with Peachtree BMWCCA before I even went to SCCA events but I thought it would be too much. But as I started to attend, it became evident that while it's a bigger event with more people it's still very grassroots-ish and not impersonal at all.

After that I started doing divisional and national level events I figured out that autox is 30% acutal driving and 70% socializing/bsing/cartalk/drinking beers with friends. Somehow that's the perfect recipe for fun for me :). I guess my point is that hopefully nobody should feel overwhelmed at our events, while they are a bit more hectic I do believe we do retain much of the social/fun aspect.

However the BMWCCA Peachtree events always hold a special place in my heart since that's where I started autoxing four years ago :001_wub:

edit: Actually our night events typically average to about 160-180 people versus our day events at 200-230
