If you're planning to come up and visit in Canada, be warned there's an idiotic new law in Ontario that came into effect Oct. 1.
Anyone and everyone caught speeding by 50 km/h (about 30 m.p.h.) over the limit faces IMMEDIATE and NON-PROTESTABLE drivers licence suspension for 1 week, plus your car is CONFISCATED for 1 week.
There is no appeal.
This also applies, at the officer's discretion, to anyone driving "dangerously to the public, involved in any type of speed contest, driving aggresively (i.e. abrupt lane changes or following too closely), or showing off (notably doing donuts, or wheelies on motorcycles)".
The first weekend there were 28 cars confiscated, including 2 rental cars (!) driving over 150 km/h. Thats 90 mph.
So we'd love you to come visit, but be careful out there.
Anybody know where I can get a job in the U.S.?????

Gee thanx.
But I've got one just like it up here.
You have Road Atlanta, but we've got Mosport.....
You have 3 weeks of winter, we have 5 MONTHS of winter....
Wait a minute.....I'm reconsidering.

That law really sucks. Speeders are not usually the dangerous people on the road. I'm more concerned by people going too slow, especially in the left lane.

Agreed. But its easier to get a speeding charge through the courts.
Radar and laser charges are very hard to fight.
And this isn't really about safety; its a legal tax grab to be sure.
O, did I mention the fine?
Besides lifting your licence, and impounding your car, the MINIMUM fine is $2000.00, and the maximum is $10,000. And they take U.S> dollars at par.
And people driving 20 mph BELOW the speed limit, in the left lane, aren't charged.
What a wonderful country.............

That sucks. I'm glad I did not move there. I've thought about it a few times already.

Well, don't be too hasty.
There are some extreme advantages up here too, besides the Health Care system.
And out local police force (the motorcycle division) rides BMW K75s.

Eh, some parts of the US have some pretty harsh and/or stupid laws.
