Looks to me like a mid-early 60's 250GT coupe.
What do I win?:D
Mitch

Definately a kind of 250 GT. Its the Tour de France! One of the most gorgeous Ferraris ever made! You WIN! I wish you won this car! How about a pat on the back and a handshake? :)
Would you like to post another trivia question?

Kewl. OK...I wish I could say this is the parking lot in front of my office, but anyone care to identify all 3 of these?
Funniest thing...my K1200 was parked next to these, and the owners of the 3 cars were SHOCKED as people walked right past the cars to ogle the bike!!!!

Sorry!!
Its a McLaren SLR.
Correct on the GT3.
And a 599.
Three VERY young (early 20's), and obviously successful owners!!!
(Leave it to the Ferrari guy to leave HIS toy in a handicapped-only parking spot.....the spots are wider to allow wheelchair access, not to prevent door dings!).

OK, since you guys missed the McLaren SLR, try this one.
Yes, the guy in the photo is a famous Russian cosmonaut, but what's the car?
Hint: the company that built it was also involved in F1 for a while, and their F1 cars had the most incredible sound of any of the cars.
Good luck.

I don't know, it's kinda hard to see, maybe if we had a smaller picture to look at, it would be easier to tell, LOL!
Just messing, I honestly don't know what that is, looks almost like an E Type with a shorter nose . . . . but I've been way off before, LOL!
Hope someone gets it...

Actually, "ADD LIGHTNESS" should get it.
This company's cars were SERIOUS lightweights long before Colin coined the phrase.........which was the reason behind their extraordinary performance.....
OK, one last hint.......
its French.
Wanna try again?
Mitch
10-02-2007, 05:40 PM
Oh man this is a good one! Is the car a Renault Alpine?
GaryK1200330
10-02-2007, 07:03 PM
Not even close!!!
Give up?
Here's another one.......same model.

Man, I'm making this TOO easy.......!
Here's another shot.
Well?
Mitch
10-02-2007, 07:27 PM
Wow I am stumped! What the heck is it?
GaryK1200330
10-02-2007, 07:40 PM
OK, OK.
The car is a Matra D-JET.
That tiny little engine is in the back; there were various models, but the highest performance one was 105 hp.
Doesn't sound like much?
Well, consider the car weighed UNDER 750 lbs.!!!! They went like.....stink!
Google it for more info.
O, and by the way, I had the honour of seeing the MAtra F1 cars live at St. Jovite in 1970; you could tell it was a MAtra coming long before you saw it.
At the time, most cars were turning 11,000 rpm, and the MAtras were doing 14,000.
They SCREAMED!!!!! in comparison.
BAck to the D-JET; you may have seen an email recently about a guy who bought an old abandoned farm in Portugal, where he planned to retire with his wife. When they cut open the (welded) doors to an old barn on the property, they found about 150 old cars, in various states of condition. Alfas, Jags, BMWs (a few big, pre-war sedans, some 2002s, etc), some Formula 2 racing cars, a few Lotuses (Lotii?) and a MATRA D-JET! One of about 800 ever produced. Very nice find indeed.
OK...enough. I throw over the gaunlet to...?????
Who has the next auto-puzzler?

O, and the story about "finding" the cars MAY be an Urban Hoax.
But here's a link to the story, and pictures of the cars.

Yes, its a McLaren. Number 755 (as marked on the fender), and its parked daily next door to my favourite restaurant. I may be wrong on the Ferrari, as they're all starting to look alike, unlike the old days when a 328 and a Testarossa were distinguishable from 100 feet away.
And the McLaren, by the way, is WAY uglier then the McLaren F1. But it DOES have 650 hp., even if it goes through one of those silly paddle-shift transmissions, unlike the real McLaren, which has a real 6-speed and clutch attached to the back of its BMW V-12.

OK.....anybody ever hear of Riley Automobiles. This is a rare 250 DM-model roadster. Post-war, I believe 1949.
Maybe this one will be easier.........there's even a hint in the photo!!!!!

Ha haaa very funny Gary! That one is too easy! :)
GaryK1200330
10-03-2007, 03:55 PM
OK...OK.
I was feeling silly last night!
Back to the Riley, for anyone interested.....
The Riley shown is a 1951 RMD 250 roadster, and has the honour of being powered by a straight-4 HEMI engine.
Bet some of you thought Chrysler invented the HEMI, but its been around for years.
In fact, our beloved BMW 2002 had one as well.
Hey, after all, this IS a trivia site.

I see it now. Yea i agree with you on the 6 speed. If i ever get the chance to spec out a new ferrari i will definitely be checking the 6 speed manual box.

I feel like a dumbass, I thought Rileys were British?
Yes, Rileys were British. These posts appear to show up out of order; I was referring to an earlier post, where someone was thinking it was a Daimler.
My brother drove a Daimler based on a Jag 420 for many years, and I'd forgotten about Daimler Benz being German, so I may have misled you.
My heartfelt apologies.
As to the Riley, Mitch.....try a google search for Riley Automobiles. Fascinating history there.
Even if they're NOT German!!!

OK, here's the next one.
This car was in production from 1991-1998, and has now re-entered production (as of 2006).
Its designer was VERY famous, VERY VERY famous in racing car circles, but these little bombs are street-legal.
The current model is powered by a 1 litre YAmaha motorcycle engine from their top-end sportsbike, and once again, the key to the outstanding performance is the very light weight.
Guesses?

We have a winner!!!
Yes, the Rocket.
Designed by Gordon Murray, chief genius at McLaren in the Niki Lauda days, responsible for Ayrton Senna's winning streak, as well as the incredible, remarkable and never-to-be-outdone BMW-powered McLaren F1, the ULTIMATE street car.
There are TWO F1's in Atlanta boys, so keep your eyes open! (And both are owned by the same gentleman).

87635csi, do you think we can get the McLarens to attend? What I'd like is to have BMW Isettas, along with all the classic and current BMWs, then have a McLaren F1 along side the Isetta. Something crazy like that. I'd LOVE that.
