Clean, but what a freak-show. WTF was he thinking putting $30K into this project (if he really did put that much into it)?
At the end of the day he is still driving a beat E30 that is nose-heavy and mostly worthless. Cool, but worthless. The same $30K could have bought the Mcoupe that he took all the suspension pieces off of.

Wow a decent e30 :)
I would rock the hell out of that!

I would buy that car if I went up to see it. I'd LOVE it! :)

My thoughts exactly. I would easily trade the M3 for a down-payment on a V8 E30

I don't appreciate your sarcasm.:nono::001_tongue:

No, not at all. I said it was cool as hell. And, anyone who knows me knows that I regard the E30 that I owned as one of the best cars I have driven. And the cars I have owned and driven isn't a short list, Mitch is my best friend afterall.
I just look at that car, with it's focked up interior and hacked together swap and think that he probably ruined the handling of the car to pick up a minor increase in performance. It's a hell of a burn-out machine, and a great conversation piece at car shows. But, if you want to do an engine swap, look at 4ngie's old E30. THAT is how it's done.
And, the $30K he sunk into that car would have bought a REALLY decent Mcoupe that would retain a lot of it's value and hand that E30 it's azz in almost every regard. Never mind what kind of Porsche, Vette, or Cobra kit car (Factory 5 anyone??) you can have for that kind of money. Think about Mitch's old 951. You can have TWO of them for $30K, one for the track and one to drive daily. Hell, Mitch didn't pay a whole lot more than $30K for his Ferrari!
Yes, it's very cool. No, I don't want it if I'm paying for it.

30k? I think I can M60 swap an E30 for less than that :p
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I dunno, maybe not, I'll do the research and see what the followup costs will be, not to mention the unexpected and "hidden" costs. I would still prefer the M20 engine simply due to the fact that the M60 is 93 friendly only, and while (as Mach already said) the burnouts and drifting would be awesome, I think the price would weigh heavily on maintenance and upkeep and you'd probably wind up selling it yourself.

I hear that man, that thing is awesome and I can only hope the new one will be as well.

I still think the best way to increase power with the M20 is to get yourself a 524TD exhaust manifold, bolt on a small turbo to keep lag to a minimum, and run 8-10 pounds of boost so you don't have to screw with lowering the compression.
This should net 250-270 RWHP, which is more than enough to make the E30 VERY potent on the street and on the track. Hell, add a small shot of nitrous to lower in the intake temps and you can even skip the intercooler.

Judging by the parts that Matt has been buying for the new one, it's going to be bad ass.

subframe has to drop down 25mm (a company makes spacers http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/airin/bmw_subframe_spacers.shtml)
remote brake booster or brake booster delete
you can make mounts off the frame rails but it is debated that the crash worthiness of the the crumple zones is deteriorated..... lots and lots of little thinks that i dont recall at the moment but i'll think of when i'm not so tired

lol small turbo + 10psi + M20 = blown head gaskets and blown pistons.... M20s need a large turbine housing paired with a small compressor housing to retain low back pressure.... and even using the M21 manifold heavily ported it flows ****tier than any other manifold/adapter out there.....
skipping the intercooler on a 8-10psi setup on the e30 would spell disaster and nitrous wont help for squat.... now methanol/water injection could help a fair bit to lower temps and raise the knock threshhold but your living your life out of a bottle.... intercooler + piping =200

Don't even bother yourself bro, LOL!
When I get my next Bimmer (most likely an E30 or E34) I'm taking the racer's approach to building it. If the motor is still good, I'll use it. For now, however, I don't care, it's not worth your worry man! Just think about the future . . .the future of drifting . . .mmmmmm . . .sideways goodness . . .you gotta love that! :001_wub:
