My mom was involved in a small collision yesterday in her MINI. How long does it take for a collision to show up on a carfax report? My dad has been thinking of selling the car and is now afraid of getting diminished value. The damage isn't bad - it will just need a new rear bumper.

Just keep the invoice of the repairs and the damage and when you sell it warn them BEFORE it will come up and pop out the receipts of what happened and the cost and only a moron would flip out about that.
Be up front and I can assure you it will be just fine :)
Or you can try the other side and try to hide it and then get angry calls later ;)

Unless she had the repairs covered by insurance, I don't think that this would show up. I could be wrong. and what ^^^ said. I wouldn't care if the car I am buying was just in a minor scrape. bent frame etc I would be wary about.

Yah if you paid out of pocket it won't be on carfax.
Thus why Carfax is not all that great really. A rich person will just pay out of pocket :)

Correct, if you go through your insurance, it will be noted on carfax. If you pay outta your own pocket, there is no ding on the carfax.

Some of them slip through the cracks. My E28 was involved in a collision about 10 years ago. $6k in damage, police report and an insurance claim. It still has a clean Carfax. (Doesn't really matter to me either way, the car was properly repaired & I have no interest in selling it)

Yes sometimes they do fall through the cracks. Carfax is sometimes not accurate at all.
