Cost:
The track has approved special pricing for our event rental. The cost is around 1/2 of what we had originally expected.
We've made the decision to go ahead and pass the savings on to the participants of the event. If you were hesitant to do the event bc of the original price, this should no longer be as much of an issue. * hope *
The price is now $130 if you pre-register for the event and $180 if you choose to register the week of the event.

**** Pre-registration IS OPEN NOW! Paypal Address is: SALES@DGTRIALS.COM

Pre-Registration closes on May, 18th! If you PayPal after that, it will be $180. THERE WILL BE NO PAY AT THE GATE.

This event is NOT going to be a competition. THIS IS A PRIVATE DAY Each driver is allowed 2 crew members. Anyone else will be turned away at the gate.

Please keep this event private -- do not tell everyone you know, do not invite your whole family or your fleet of friends to come watch. We are able to conduct these days because they are extremely low key driver-based training sessions. If we continue to keep them that way, we will be allowed to continue to have them.

Again, we would like to stress that this event is open to all skill level drivers. We will have qualified instructors on hand to help with your technique, as well as car builders and crew mechanics to give pointers on car building and setup.

TANDEM!! TANDEM!! TANDEM!!

If you've got the background, and you fill out your petition, you might just get it!
Cage and firesuit required!

TANDEM PETITION (http://dgtrials.com/forms/tandem_petition.doc)

NOTES:

SA rated helmet is required! Because this is a racetrack; motorcycle helmets will not be useable

1. There will be a 40 DRIVER MAX. To make sure that everyone gets PLENTY of seat time. ONCE WE’VE REACHED THE 40 DRIVER LIMIT THAT'S IT.

2. ALL DRIVERS NEED TO ARRIVE AT 7 AM. If you are paid and do not arrive by 7AM, your registration will not be accepted. This will be 100% enforced.
3. We will be being very strict on being timely..that means...I say tech ends at 8:00, it ends at 8:00. We want everyone to get as many runs as possible!

4. Any goofing around, horseplay in the pit area and otherwise disrespectful behavior will NOT be tolerated and will result in expulsion from the facility with no refund.

5. General tech inspection guidelines --
a. Battery tie down -- you must have a strong battery tie down (preferably metal). Bungee cords are no good. Do not even bother getting in the tech line if your battery is not secured well. Battery boxes must be similarly secured.
b. Seat belts -- you must have a functional 3 (or more) point seat belt that is securely fastened.
c. Seat bolts -- make sure all your seat bolts are tight and present. You will not be able to drive with less than 4 bolts holding your seat to the chassis.
d. Lug Nuts / Studs -- you must have all lug nuts and studs per wheel. 3/4 or 4/5 lugs/studs fails tech. No exceptions.
e. Wheel bearings -- must not exhibit excessive play.

We're not running the entire infield, so if you want to pay to run 4 turns or so, you're more than welcome to ;)

I don't get a fancy trailer :( That means I'll need an extra set of tires on top of what I'll be shredding out.

Question, how is this course on the tires? Just wondering so I know how many sets to bring, I'll probably be spending most of my time spinning out so that means I'll need to bring more tires to make up for my lack of skill :(

Honestly, I don't think we really know about tires. I don't think the surface is particularly rough, but from initiation to course end you are probably on boil. I'd say that 2 pairs would be the minimum you'd want to show up with, but it depends on compound. If you were running something like a Maxxis V1 or a WanLi you'd probably be able to run all day on a fresh pair.

So if you are running on brick tires they can maybe last all day?

hehe

Well yeah, pretty much. There are plenty of inexpensive good tires out there you can get that have harder compounds. The trade off is always life for control/performance, but I suppose that's the case with all motor sports.

Stupid Question . . . .will there be tire mounting and balancing at this event?

Just wondering.

Not stupid at all. We are looking into it, but there is a shop not far away (~15min I believe) that can do it.

I'm very excited about this event, the near 4-hour drive is going to suck with my Mustang's gas mileage, but it'll be worth it for this one!

I have a silly question, and this is purely so that I can dream about it later on . . .Any idea how fast the entry speeds for us novice drifters will be? How about the more seasoned drivers? Just wondering . . .

Considering that we can move the start line back as far as we deem safe, you can assume that you will be able to enter as fast as your skill can possibly allow.

If someone like Robbie Nishida showed up he could easily be pulling entry speeds in the 80s or 90s I'd think.

Yeah, I'm still very much a novice and this will be my first time using a torquey V8 to slide around anything so I think I'll be the one guy that seems to enter slow as heck. I haven't done any track drifting with the Bullitt yet, just an autocross, it slides out easily, but because of the suspension setup it likes to understeer. I hear that it's better for the car to want to understeer because it helps you enter faster, but that's just hearsay and since I'm relatively new to the sport I'm only really able to go by what other's tell me.

In any case, I can't wait to get there and learn from yourself and the other seasoned drifters. Perhaps I can make progress within the event. Maybe I can get one of you to drive my car for me and give me the best advice from there.

To me, in my experience, I have preferred a car that is set up neutral to under. That way the natural desire for the car is to straighten out instead of spin out. A car that is set up for heavy oversteer is difficult to handle at the extreme limit because it always wants to get away from you instead of get back in line. Other people have different opinions.

But, you will get a ton of practice, and you'll get to figure out what you like!

Sounds like a plan and thanks for the words of inspiration, I hope that I can come out of this event with some new found skill and have a whole new idea on what car control really is.

I really want to thank DGTrials for putting events like this on, it's almost frustrating here in the States to see the drifting events spread so thinly. When I was in Japan (yeah I know, people hate when I reference Japan . . .) we had these places called "Drift Parks" where every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday they would be open from sun up to sun down and it was only 5000 yen (about 50 bucks) to drift all day. I would really love to see DGTrials or someone in the field get one of those going. Any chance of you all getting something like that going? I'd imagine that after about 6 months of it being open it would begin to pay for itself. Just thinking out loud basically.

Thanks for your words of inspiration as well :)

Japan's motor sports mentality and demographics are very different from the states, but more and more motor sports facilities are opening day by day in this country, so you've got a lot to be excited about on the horizon.

Well that's good to hear, I may have a proposal for an idea, if you don't mind, that I've been working on for the last few years. It seems like it would be able to go somewhere but I have no idea how to get the bearings greased and gears moving.

It's not a drifting event or anything of the sort and I think it would actually reach to more expansive of an audience with the potential to make some big bucks for all involved.

Definitely huge thanks to Marty, Erik, Tony and Alan for helping me out at this event and for being patient and teaching me what I needed to learn in order to complete the day the way I did. I literally went from plowing into every turn to completing the track with 60mph and 70mph entrances into the turns. I still have a lot to learn about this vehicle but Erick's words were inspiring and made me feel as if the practice really has gone to good use.

Also, huge thank yous go out to everyone of DGTrials for putting this event together, I've never seen an event with that much seat time available and the event literally lasted longer than most drivers had spare parts and gas. We were all dropping like flies out there, it seemed as if everyone broke something on their vehicle, I'm waiting until I go out tomorrow morning to see what exactly the track claimed from my car.

It was all a very good time and I learned SO MUCH that I can't wait for the next event! Thanks again!!!

Ooopsie! Fixed :D

I can't wait for the next one, I'm going to do what you said and find a better compound for the fronts and see what I can do about getting some adjustable suspension ^_^

Thanks again DG, it definitely made my weekend that much more enjoyable!
