So today i looked down at my cluster and saw that my airbag light was on!! Has anyone else had this happen to them if so how did you fix it? My car is almost exactly 10 years old this month so i guess it throw it as a update or something because i think airbag systems need to be updated every 10 years or so.....
Thanks for the help!

Mine has been on for over a year now. I haven't bothered to fix it. I think I have something loose in my steering column and that is what's causing it.

I'd scan for codes, might not be worth fixing though.

well, I know in the vw world, the airbag light is on, but the airbags still function when needed. is it a real error, or is the German car just breaking for fun? hopefully it's the latter.

cool by me. I know the best tool that I bought for my car was vag-com, obd2 scanner. love it. also can adjust my timing when running race gas etc. and clear codes. I cleared mitch's airbag light a few times back when he had his GTI.

Sorry to be Captain Obvious, but did you have something sorta heavy on your passenger seat? Some cars (not sure about Bimmers) recognize a weight that's heavier than a briefcase, but not as heavy as an adult, and assumes it's a child in the passenger seat, who can be injured by the airbag so the airbag gets temporarily disengaged.

NO i didn't have anything on my seat but good thought!
Yeah when i go into work today i am going to use our OBD2 scanner and see if i can clear it but i think you have to have a special tool for the airbag stuff idk i guess i will find out in about 30mins lol!

Oh thats easy to fix, all you need is a small peice of electrical tape!
yeah just scan the codes. Its a common problem with many possible reasons.
Mine is due to both seatbelt buckels being bad as well as the passenger seat sensor. I plan to replace both buckels and make a fake sensor to plug in(its a small circuit, I have the schematic somewhere). but those damn buckels are expensive, Im lazy and its toward the bottom of "the list"
Im not terribly worried about it though, if it makes my airbags not work so be it...I personally thing they do more damage then they are worth anyway.

Electrical tape FTW on that one. Gonna do it to mine sometime soon or just solder in a electrode to bypass it.

I bet it is either:
1) driver side seat belt tensioner
2) passenger side seat belt tensioner
3) passenger seat occupancy sensor
4) slip ring
My guess is on #1 or #2....In 6 years of ownership, I'm on #3

^ what he said. Same thing happened to mine when we replaced the factory seats with the Sparco ones we have in there now (1, 2 or 3). I ended up removing the bulb out from behind the indicator in the instrument cluster.
