The car HAS to be 99+ that's it, I got approved for 16k and am looking for some Bavarian beauty to become my daily dream. She just has to be manual transmission, that's the ONLY limit I'm putting out there. Other than that, I'd prefer a 3 series, but am open to suggestions.

Yeah pretty much the only thing they told me is that they can't do anything below a 1999 vehicle and over 16 grand. Personally, I only want a manual transmission, and if you can find me a hard top, I'd prefer that as I already have my convertible precious.

Okay, one more post:

In three or four speed transmissions, in most cases, the topmost gear is "direct", i.e. a 1:1 ratio. For five speed or higher transmissions, the highest gear is usually an overdrive gear, with a ratio of less than 1:1.

With this car, the 5th gear is the "direct" gear, having a 1:1 ratio rather than functioning as the overdrive....

Direct 5th gear refers to the 1:1 ratio of the gear. It turns as fast as the engine does. In most other 5 speeds, 5th gear is an overdrive (something like 0.84:1 ratio) in which the tranny spins slower than the motor and 4th gear is the "direct gear. Overdrive benefits: increased fuel economy and allows for a "taller" drive gear. Cons: reduced torque multiplication in overdrive (results in a need to downshift to pass at highway speeds), gear ratios (in tranny) not as close together.

But yes . . . the 330s and 540s seem to be the way to go for me, brutal, yet managable power and speed, awesome handling and BMW quality. That untapped, no-need-to-modify, prowess makes me drool ever so slightly . . .

An M3 also seems like a choice candidate, but those who know what they're selling aren't letting them go cheap unless they have something wrong with them.

Talked to my lending agent and he says that there are a few more stipulations that we have to meet :( But they seem pretty "no duh" anywawy.

-No Frame Damage
-No Airbag Deployment
-No Service Lights

Like I said, they seem pretty much "no duh" anyway as I wouldn't purchase a car with those issues anyway, but just something to keep an eye out for ^_^

Stig.. I drove this car, '01 540i/6, a few weeks ago and it drove great.. And who knows, maybe they'll negotiate as you'd be presenting a check??.. (they don't finance anyway)..

I say take it for a spin, get a PPI done and pick it up!! BTW, it also has the widescreen Navigation.!! :) I was going to get it, but wanted to hold off on having a car payment for now.. :)

I know I might be going against the grain a little, and concede that there are many quality choices within the BMW marque that I myself would consider. But, have you considered a V-dub? My 06 GTI is a pisser to drive and the quality (I feel) is on par with BMW.

Suggestion....... expand the search well outside of the Atlanta area. When I've looked before (pretty much hands-down), the Atlanta area asks a premium for cars far above the actual value. (which also means you really wanna make sure for insurance coverage reasons you target what KBB/NADA has for the cars worth). I like to keep away from any dealers, and stay with the private party people, knowing they are looking to move-their-car, and have been smacked-upside-the-head with a TradeIn value on theirs, which is a prime car to look at. (to move fast)

So the "mission" is 16K, and clean. (So we could look probably to 19-20K asking price).....

Is your preference a 3-series or another 5?
