I just get in the car, crank it and sit there for a few minutes until I actually see the oil temp gauge move a little off Cold. Then basically drive as normal. I don't use redline until I know the oil is nice and hot. How about you?

well, my cars owners manual said to not cold warm up the GTI. It says to drive it immediately but with only a small load. I don't get into the boost till the oil is up to temp.

What does your manual tell you to do?

get in a go, but keep it under 3500 till the temp needle is at warm. And I dont romp on it till i know its hot(if i can help it)

Ummm so, is it bad that I do reverse donuts until the coolant reaches normal?

BMW recommends exactly that - turn on, drive - just dont press it until oil temp is at norm.

reasoning behind that is if you let it idle for a while, only certain parts become warm. then once you start driving, some components are cold, some warm - which can lead to impending repairs....in any case, on a cold start, simply drive like your grandmother would for a while. shift a tad later if in manual. ideally, its best to warm all parts evenly to ensure efficient mechanical harmony.

Actually whats cool is the M5 has orange warning LED lights from 4000rpm on the tach and red LED lights at 8000. The car actually tells me when the oil is ready for romping on the loud pedal.
