Mine are painted on both cars with flat black SEM paint. I have a couple of small spots on the E30, and none on the E46. If it chips, redo it!

I'm all about doing things the cheaper way.

Maybe I'll do that til I get the Plastic one with the pigment in it already. Are they easy to get off on a e36?

I'm glad someone asked this before me... I have been debating whether I was gonna buy new one's to replace mine.. but I think I will take the cheap advice.. Thanks Philip!!!

Well that didn't work, Went to take the grills out and the clip snapped off to brittle, So now I'm getting the Matte Black ones.

i got mine from modbargains, a little steep ($75 i think) but worth it. they're painted matte black and won't chip off easily unlike other cheap(er)/ebay brands they're just plain black plastic and fugly.

The clip is in the middle of each one. Its about a 1'' wide pull up lightly. I"m talking to Modbargins. I have them down from $70.00 to $65.00 per pair at that price its not worth painting them.
