A surfer/race-car driver.
J/K I don't really know for sure. If I knew that I'd still be in college. I just want a steady job that meets these requirements:
1. Decent pay
2. Benefits
3. Allows me to have at least *some* time off to see my g/f/ family/ friends etc.
4. Doesn't suck.
Is that too much too ask? My current job only partially meets 1 of those and it's number 3.
Bartending doesn't meet those either, but at least I can make a hell of alot of money doing it. When I went from bartending to working here I took a 50% pay-cut. (Stupid, I know)

My advice - do what you can to make as much money as you can until you find what you love. If that means going back to bartending, do it. The more money you can put away now and not rack up debt doing it, the earlier you can kick back and do what you want in the future. I wish I could go back to your age knowing what I know now. I'd be putting at least $1,000 a month in mutual funds and living on rice and beans (with a paid for BMW). I could probably retire at 40 (next year) on the money I'd have invested.

You're not the first person to tell me that. Maybe I should actually look into that. I definitely couldn't do $1k/month but I'm sure I could invest a few hundred at least.
I wouldn't even know where to begin as far as where to put it though.:confused1:

I would be happy to but I work on Sundays and often on Saturdays. My Mom is going to get tired of it too, when Tim has to start going out of town on the weekends again and I have to work. Maybe I can send mine to your Mom and you can send yours to my Mom, you know to sort of change it up a bit once in awhile. :)

Nothing. That's the problem.
A retired buddy of mine started in parts at a Ford Dealership in the Chicagoland area.
He learned and has known the car parts industry cold.
Worked his way up the ladder becoming parts manager and was offered partial ownership of
the dealership because he made money for the boss and for Ford.
He made his part department the largest profit money maker in the area.
Invested his money with Ford using the maximum company co-pay percentage using Ford various
employee investment plans.
Today he has life the way he wanted.
So there is hope – even in the parts department.

you can always do what my cousin did. He sold medical equipment(basicly parts) and he kept making contacts with the middle man, and got in with them and started selling stuff from them. Then kept working his way up the chain untill he got to the actual suppliers and started up his own company and selling to the consumers. Taking the place of pretty much all the middle men, and getting all thier profit.
Put yourself in a postion to learn how to take over what your doing now.

I got audited this past weekend at my part-time job. (I'm like the lady in the grocery store that gives out samples, except I work in pet food stores and give out dog & cat food samples.) I gave the most brilliant pitch of my career and was feeling so proud of myself and was sure I had a sale, and then my boss came around the corner and said "Surprise!". BMW is hiring
Despite the fact that BMW is looking to cut about 8,000 jobs worldwide, the Spartanburg facility in South Carolina are looking for new employees. The South Carolina plant currently produces the X5 and Z4, but with production of the X6 beginning a few weeks back, BMW is looking to staff an additional 200 jobs to keep up with the demand.
They are also going to up the night shifts from eight to ten hours. In 2009, BMW will move the Z4 production to Germany but in the same time, the new X3 will start its production cycle at the Spartanburg center.
Those of you looking for jobs in the Spartanburg area can apply through MAU Inc., BMW's U.S. staffing firm, and should expect to bring in $12.50 an hour during the day shift and additional buck if you're willing to toil away in the wee hours of the night.

Phil I can't help but smile at this thread... so you're a reception...er (?) now? I thought you were a Service Writer.. I guess I'm confused lol. By the way, if you're attempting to get into parts, that is one of the hardest jobs to get and to lose. Being in the parts department is like marrying the dealer. Hard to get in, hard to get fired (or other people for that matter :nono:) Good luck man! If we get an opening, which we might soon, I'll give you a PM!
I am service receptionist. It bah-lows. I am trying to get into parts, it would double my income, and make my job infinitely more enjoyable.
I do appreciate you keeping me in mind.

Double? Maybe I should catch a job at Global haha.. Parts pays well but based on experience with procedures and knowledge of etk.. hire me global! :P

Global pays the parts guys the same way. Unfortunately they pay the receptionists based on how little money they can possibly pay someone to put up with their pompous douchebag customers' angry phone calls.

Complain about my job. Well, the Dow Jones is tanking, my clients are freaking out, and I'm working well over 80 hours a week (hence the lack of Mach on these fine forums for the past two weeks). I haven't seen my daughter since last weekend.
On the plus side, we just moved into our new office space and my new office is SCHWEEET!!:luxhello: I just brought in my artwork and some die-cast models for my credenza (did I even spell that correctly??). It's nice to finally be able to shut my door, put on some tunes, and ignore the other schnooks that I work with.
