I'm going to get the M5 tinted in the next few weeks. I want the back windows pretty dark, but the fronts needs to be legal. Has anyone used a GOOD tint guy? If so who and where?

Very small world. I got steves name through a guy named Brandon Phipps. Steve's a great guy...

I paid 220 to have my 325 tinted 20% around. I'd say it would be around $10 for the mini because he could have it done in 2 or 3 minutes...haha, j/k

Ha! The MINI came tinted to my liking. We need to tint the wagon. It has the clearest glass I've ever seen in a car.

I don't know what he's using these days.. he's had an account with everyone. I wanna see he used Sunguard on the E30.

Hang on, and I'll send him a text and see what he's using now.

Mitch: Steve just replied to my text. He said the M5 would normally go for $280, but he'll knock $50 off.

He's using Global brand tint.

I'm getting a price for the wagon and the rear window of the M3. Stand by..

The M3 is $150 since he'd have to remove the tint.

We could have it at my house if you want, but I just realized that I won't be ready until closer to the Spring. I've got some required maintenance that needs to be done so I have to budget appropriately. :(

If you all can wait awhile, I'd love to have it done here, otherwise maybe you can have your tinting party at Wayne's and I'll just get it done later.

Angie, thanks again for the info. I don't mean to sound ungrateful and I'll most likely end up going with Steve for my tint, I just can't do it, like, next weekend or anything.

The E28 is quite a bit more since it has to be stripped. $150 to strip + $249 to tint.

I've also got to figure out which percentage I want, right? I want to go pretty dark, obviously I can't do anything to the windshield but I want all the other windows done. I DON'T like that purple tint some people use.

Any suggestions about how much tint I should get? Is there a standard for white cars? What is the legal limit?

Okay, so I'm guessing the higher the percentage, the darker the tint. I thought it was the other way around. Hell, I don't know, I've never done this before!

So what does everyone think about, say 25%? Just pulled that number out of the air. Is that probably too dark for a white car or is darker, better? I really have no idea what to ask for. Does Steve have a website I can look at for more information?

Thanks!

Just the opposite. 35% is the amount of light that passes through, so 5% is darker.

Catmint
12-31-2007, 01:55 PM
Okay, thanks. So legally you cannot go darker than 35%? Is that only for the front windows, I'm assuming?

Anyway, the whole point is, do I need to decide what I want before Steve comes to tint my windows, or can I decide after he's here and we've discussed it?

Sorry for all the questions, I've never done this before and I'm truly clueless. But I'm learning! :)

35% is the limit on all passenger vehicles excluding trucks, vans, and suv's. The front two windows on those must be 35% or lighter, but the rest can be as dark as you want. It's illegal to tint the windshield at all past the top 6". So for your car, if you want it legal, you can not get it darker than 35% all the way around. In some cases, a doctor can prescribe darker tint for you if you have certain medical conditions. If you're pulled over, the police will put a light meter on all of your windows.

Wow, it's been a while since I've had to say all of that. :D

Catmint

Dan_UnitedBMW

Okay, guys, let's set a date already! I don't care where it is, D'ville is fine but Steve's shop is fine too, or someone else's house.

Anyone up for doing it this week or weekend? Angie, is Steve free this week? Do you want me to call him or do you want to set it up?

Let's agree on a date/time/location by the end of today (Monday).

PS: Do you know if he uses a metallic tint? I have been advised not to use a metallic tint. I have no idea what that means or how common it is, so don't laugh if it's a stupid question, I'm still learning! :)

If things go as planned today, I will most likely be willing to do it this week sometime. Sooner the better IMO. I can call him and set something up if you want me to Angie, or you can, doesn't matter to me....

And I would assume by metallic tint they were refering to the "mirror" tint that some people have. Most tint shops will do this for you if you request it, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to do so...

Cindy, I can't wait to see how your cars going to look tinted. I think white with dark windoes looks incredible...Do you know how dark you are going to go?

Okay, I'm so confused! If 35% is the legal limit, why are people getting their windows darker (20%, etc.)?

Because Police are not very strict when it comes to window tint..

:D I'll let him know.

I'm sure he was giving a group deal when I was getting prices because I was getting a price for individual cars. I'll call him later and ask if you want. So you don't want to bring it to Douglasville Saturday?

I will take it to Dville if eveyrone else is or if I need to for the group deal; that being said, its much more convenient to drop it off at his shop because its so close to my office.

You might be better off taking it there then. Up to you. :)

SOME police aren't very strict with window tint. Others are.. and if they give you a ticket, you have to pay the ticket, and remove the tint. Steve charges $150 just to remove tint because it's a royal PITA. I have 35% on my E46 and 20% on the E30. I was willing to risk it.

Just out of curiosity, how dark is 35%? Is it going to make a significant difference in the appearance or should we chance going darker?

Cool, thanks! I think I'll stick with 35% since I don't want to risk it. Does 35% look good (i.e., is it different enough from no tint at all, so that it's worth it?).

And I'll reiterate, I'm fine with going anywhere so pick a place that's convenient to the majority. Thanks!

I'm 100% in now (see post in Clubbimmer Grandstand). Ask steve what works for him and what we need to do to get the best deal. As said before, its more convenient to drop it off at his shop but if it makes or breaks us getting a group discount then i'll drive somewhere...Ask him when you get a chance Angie, I can call as well just to iron out some details..

Wayne: I just got off the phone with Steve trying to set everything up for this weekend. He said if he told you it was $49 cheaper, then he'll do it for you at that price. I believe that would make it $350, correct?

Steve has one of his tint techs scheduled to be at Cindy's house from 11am-7pm on Saturday the 19th. Steve will also be there, but will most likely not be tinting himself. If you are definitetly getting your windows tinted, I need to know by tomorrow afternoon at the latest. I'll need car & payment info for each vehicle to be scheduled.

Cindy: Please PM me your name, address, a contact number, and which credit card you will be using. :) Thanks

Jonathan: Steve said if you take it to his shop, it's the same price and the same tech will be doing your windows. It's still up to you if you'd rather drive to Douglasville.

Mitch & Boozie: If you still want a price and to be scheduled for Saturday, please let me know.

I'm putting this list together as a reference that I can come back to if I need to.

He had left 11-7 open because I had told him that a few cars would be there. It's looking like just Cindy's car so far. I think he usually tries to reserve 2 hours per car. If you can't make it Saturday, I can arrange for him to meet you somewhere else another day if you'd like. :)
