I'm single . . . but jewlery is always a sure fire shot, but don't buy it unless it's heartfelt. You can spend 3000 dollars on a single band if the emotion isn't behind the purchase, the woman will be able to tell.

You'll get a much better reaction buying that special someone something inexpensive yet meaningful. For instance, if your wife is a workaholic and always seems to have her head in paperwork, you buy her a pendant . . .she would love it . . .trust me . . .but I'm sure that she'd be more romanced by you giving her a typed "certificate" that says

"Trip for one . . .to relaxation in heaven" along side of the typed certificate, which is OBVIOUS you typed in Microsoft Word, you have a single ticket and a two roses tied with a red ribbon. The ribbon signifies the bond between the two roses which symbolize you and her in a neverending love. The ticket is to a therapudic spa or a massage parlor or coastal resort.

That's just my opinion . . .I could be wrong . . . ^_^

Stig has it right. Jewelry is always a good bet. Trips to the spa are good as well and I'm a sucker for good handbags. Tickets to an event she would like is another idea. I just wouldn't buy a woman clothes. It's too hard to know if it will fit. If you guys want to bounce any ideas off me, I'm happy to help.

I respectfully disagree about the jewelry. It depends on the woman. Me? I'm way too practical. If Tim spent $3k on a piece of jewelry, I would be a little pissed that he didn't use it a) to pay a bill, b) to make an improvement on the house, or c) for a mod on my car. To me, jewelry is almost the very last thing I would spend money on.

Travel, on the other hand (that is, if you don't like a, b, or c above :icon18:) is a great gift. Buy her tickets for a cruise or even something less expensive like a weekend in Vegas.

My wife wants a really nice coat or jacket. I already did the jewelry thing when our anniversary in early Nov. Clothes, shoes, or jewelry always seem to be what a wife wants though.

HEHE ^_^

All I can say is that one thing I've learned from living around women for most of my life is that you simply have to listen to what they're saying. A woman will let you know what she wants (either directly or indirectly) and, no offense to any women here, since most women prefer the indirect approach to asking for something (most I've dealt with anyway) you simply listen to them and take it all in.

Hints (regardless of how subtle or overt) are truly man's best friend.

Cindy . . . . you're just being difficult . . . . :wet: LOL!

Just kidding, but seriously, you're right (as you usually are), travel, home improvements, and vehicular alteration and modification are often overlooked as to what would make a gift that she would love.

Most men fear rejection, as much as they would love to deny it . . . They want their woman's eyes to LIGHT UP BRIGHT whenever she opens that box which is why most men will default to jewelry, nice clothes, nice cars, a billion-trillion roses or whatever may have you. It's in our nature to want to make you as happy and as breathless as possible, so we go to those extremes sometimes to see that it happens . . . ^_^

I have no idea, She love to cook and back. She has just about all the All Clad pans and pots at $150.00-$200.00. OUCH!:money:

^_^ She asked for this? HAHAHA! Wow! That's pretty pricey, but I can understand where that would make for a good present. On the other hand . . .I can also see where that would have the "vacuum-effect". You know the vacuum-effect right? It's Christmas Morning, Mother's Day, her birthday, etc . . . she gets a 4-1/2x3x3 box . . . she wonders what her favorite man in the world got her. She opens the box . . . and BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!

http://www.borednet.com/th_img/41.jpg

Let's just say that what you intended to be an innocent present has now turned in to the reason why that center section of the bed has a bit of frost on it . . . .

I tell you what . . . . the emotion and thought behind often far supersedes the amount spent . . . .unless of course your significant other (and this goes for both male and female) is extremely shallow and is only "wowed" by the fact that something has just forced you to spend 3 months salary. I have an example that proves this:

A few years back, I took some video editing courses hosted by Sony and Sonic Foundry, and I became rather decent at making collage-type videos. Anyhow, long story short . . . . 2 years ago, for Mother's Day . . .I synced, mapped and stitched-together a video-collage of my mom growing up, her family, dad, and . . .of course . . .her children. It featured pictures of us graduating . . .pictures of her graduating . . .videos of us getting hurt and crying . . . videos of her helping us out . . .videos and pictures of us helping her out . . . .cool videos of grandma (R.I.P), and pictures from her wedding.

It caused her to shed a few tears from the memories and she also had some laughs . . .but she says that she thinks about how awesome that present was everyday! That lets me know that it was a good idea . . .and to be honest with you, the only thing it cost me, was about 10 hours of my day stitching the video together and about a week of research trying to find the videos and scanning old pictures into the computer.

That's just my opinion, however . . .I could be wrong . . .

That's exactly what I thought as soon as I read that. I had to literally step back and make sure I read that correctly. I guess one day we'll all be able to find someone THAT cool! LOL! I would LOVE to have a girlfriend that said

"You know what honey?"

"I would like a turbo kit for my 528 for Christmas"

*super high-pitched Tyrone Biggums voice* "SHAZZAM!"

OK, I can explain. This smiley was created for a friend of mine, Wade Chamberlain. You see, it's a "Cobra thing". Wade drove his Cobra hundreds of miles to a Cobra event in the rain. When he showed up, we was sporting a snorkel and goggles.

It's used on FFCobra.com and I uploaded it this forum by default. The members to use it to explain when they get caught in the rain or having a raining day.

Philip: Yes, he is very lucky. LOL Truthfully, I'm just much more practical than I am romantic and so is Tim, so it works out well. If your woman is a romantic, jewelry and flowers are perfect, and easy! Wait, I mean the gift is easy, not..... awww, you know what I mean.

Flowers, though, don't get me started. $50 for a dozen roses that will be gone in a few days, not to mention the baby's breath that will poison the cats (trust me, they will eat it). Blecch, I'd rather get a $50 gift card from Best Buy.

Stig: I don't know who Tyrone Biggums is, but that was a pretty funny scenario! You have a way with words (most of the time ;)).

Bill, thanks for clearing up the mystery surrounding scuba-guy. I've used him once or twice and hoped it wasn't inappropriate. Now thanks to you, I know he's a pretty innocuous little fellow!

I have to agree with you, no jewerly. I personally think it's a waste of money, sorry Julie. I told my husband not to buy me any jewelry, ever, dimonds including. I'm like you Catmint, practical, and would rather spend the money on the house, or not to spend it at all and don't see another bill to pay.

Oh yeah. We are electronic geeks. We now own 6 Mac computers although four of them are about to be for sale. I've had every incarnation of the playstation format ever made. I've also had an Xbox, Nintendo, Gameboys, you name it. I collect cameras, so I won't even get started there. We've owned four or five different iPods, not to mention a variety of musical instruments (even thought they probably don't qualify as electronics).

I would hate to see the total amount of money I've spent over the years on our "toys" - I could probably retire if I had put it in mutual funds instead....

It goes nicely with your new iMac with the 24" screen.

The other problem along with "not waiting", Ania, is that we have to have 2 of everything. :icon18:

08 T2 VR6 cranberry over black leather. It's fawking awesome, I can't wait to get it.

It's mainly for the wife as a replacement for her honda that comes off lease in a few months, but you know I will get some seat time in!! She know's about it now, she had to sign the paperwork, but I lined it up for her behind her back..she is definately happy.

I'm just happy to get her P.O.S. honda out of my driveway!! Thanks for the props, everyone. You'll definately see MachSchnell on the Toureg website!

Actually, I was all set to go to Tiffany's while I was in NYC last week and drop an obscene amount of money on a diamond tennis braclet. I was thumbing through a catalog tying to find out what my wife wanted and she told me flat out, no jewelry. And my wife LOVES Tiffany jewelry.

Mitch, Julie and Dawn are probably cut from the same cloth. I usually have to ask what to get her, given the fact that most of my wardrobe was hand-picked by her. Once and a while I get her something she didn't pick out that she really likes. Just like every once in a while a blind squirell finds a nut. :bull:

Tomorrow night is the end of lease inspection on her Honda, which means that tonight I will be trying to find a way to hide all of the atrocities I have committed against that thing in the past three years. You would really be suprised how much fence-building material you can fit in and on top of a CR-V.

Funny, both my GTI and the new Toureg are leased. EVERY time we get a new car we swear to each other that we will buy instead of lease, and then lease because the payments are so much better.

The whole reason my car remains stock is because it's leased, and the reason I wanted it was because chip and suspension tuning for a GTI is so easy and produce such great results. I'm my own worst enemy.
