Exactly what would you buy as your everyday car if you want to wring out the most of your 10K. And you don't want to spend a small fortune in repairs.

Hmm, if it has to be a daily driver, a E36 M3 for sure.

easy for me to say - a nice and clean e39 540 without the m62TU, which would mean pre-august 98 prod year, putting the value of a car like that right at 10k.

E38 - pretty much what I did including the repairs....

Yeah but what kind of mileage and condition is a $10K M3?

Justin
11-30-2007, 07:39 PM
Like 150000+ in fair to good condition!

VANOS BLOWS! dont get me wrong, you cant argue that its not an advancment in engine technology - the problem is that its SO tempermental. you might not have a single VANOS problem with a high mileage 99 540, but have to do a 3K VANOS service on a low mileage 02 540. i detracts so much from the dependability of the car that id rather not have it - which is why my dad and i just bought a great 97 540. still, i have plenty of m62 love! (and m52, but of course that is totally different).

Hey this thread pretty much sums up my life right now! lol
And my answer is E36 M3

Mitch

I agree, but back to the subject. I have seen early 911SCs for $10k, that would be an awesome daily driver!

Yeah, I'm aware of the potential VANOS issues with the 99+ E39's. I was actually looking for a '98 540i/6 before I got mine, but the Black/Tan color combo one I looked at didn't do it for me. Plus, I got what I think was a good deal on my '99 540i/6.. :)

I hear/have read the pre-99 manifold (or even a '94-95 E34 manifold) can be fitted to the '99+ cars for a little more top end power too.. hmmmm...:icon18:

I'd say the cleanest, blk/blk, late production E30 325IS I could find. End of production models usually have all the extra goodies and all the bugs worked out. I will be looking for one of the next year. The only thing that would stop me is a late production E30 M3.

WOW! I'm the only person that WOULDN'T buy a European car. I would most definitely buy something from Japan. Either a nice Integra (Type R of course ^_^), a Subaru 2.5 RS, 300zx, something . . . .to be honest, for 10 grand, I'd get myself a NICE 280zx turbo and that'd be a pretty awesome daily driver . . .

-Stig

:::EDIT::: What am I talking about? LMAO! I'd probably go crazy, buy another Corolla (GTS of course) and pocket the change to put into my track car ^_^. Go Japan!

Stig is right if you want a car that will cost $10k and only require oil and gasoline. But if you're looking for a bavarian beauty you can't go wrong with an E34/E39 540i/6.

I think they're selling just the bumpers?

Anyway, for $10K, definitely a well-sorted out E30 325is, 1991 318is, E28 M5 or an E34 540i/6 MSport.

That was what I was up against. My wife was prego and I needed a car with 4 seats and heat. My only other car at the time was a 1956 Chevy 2 door wagon, but no heat and real glass windows and a 1974 Manta Mirage (google it) picture batmobile but lower and faster. Needless to say, a two seater. I needed a 4 seater and heat. Picked up my 1991 BMW 850 6 speed (one of few) with 112,000 on the clock.
Big catch, I'm a mechanic so that fact the seller screwed me and did not mention the heater core leaking, both head gaskets leaking, and a the other usual didn't ruin me. Best 9,200.00 I ever spent!

For $10K...hmmmm.

I honestly think I would pick up an E28 535i. That car is dead sexy, reliable, and easy to work on...and parts are still plentiful. God help me, I just love the way it looks in red with 16" basketweave BBS's.

If I had to buy a real car, which is what my wife is asking me to do next, what would I buy. This has become the question of my life. We are at the point were one of our vehicles has to have 4 doors, heat, power locks and windows, and must be dead sexy and fast. Oh yea, cheap and a BMW hopefully. Is that too much to ask. The M3 is too small. I'm looking to take my family of three, and a lot of crap, to NC a lot in the nexy few years. Two good friends moved there and the only vehicle we coul take now is the 1957 Greyhound Bus\RV we have. Gernerator is not working so it can be rough sometimes.
Do I buy an E39 or a E38, that seems to be the question. Love the 5, but like the look of the 7 more. Like the room of the 7, especially on the highway, but the 5 whips around town so well. AAAAhhhhh. THe M5. Do I take up car payments to justifiy the "investment" of an M. Do you just take a 528 or 540 and wit the left over money make it a M5 stalker? (ebay turboed 528 540rwhp) again, NORMAL CAR :(
Leaning towards E38. Just had my customer 2001 740 in that we did the cold are intake, chip, and Eisenmann exhaust. That's a fun car. Add a blower, mmmmmmm. You seem Ron's at performing imports. Oh my God!:fire::money:

I think if I had an extra 10k to spend the wife would say give it to me. On a serious note, I'd drop the E34 I already have, get some roundell 58s, get all the maintenance and suspension stuff sorted and bank the rest.

My daughter is comming to the age where getting a puppy is her #1 priority..aside from fleecing Santa for all he has to give.

My wife wants to buy a purebread...a chocolate doberman or a retriever. I want to rescue a pound-puppy. I dunno who will win this one.

Mitch

Go rescue a puppy man!!! They need you more than you know. DO IT Chris!

The Z3 coupes are fantastic driving cars. Thats a great choice, but can you get one for $10k??

Philip
12-05-2007, 03:14 PM
Well, I do have a fence and I have already rescued 2 dogs. Any other suggestions ;):icon18:

I was just looking at Z3 coupes. I love those things but they are like looking for hens teeth. And every search engine for looking for these things just gives me "Z3" so I have tosearch through a gazillion convertibles which I don't want. I would imagine I'd spend a few more than 10K for a decent one though.....hmmmnnn.

Good choice. Z3 coupes are insanely ugly, but it's a very cool "german" ugly. I absolutely love them.
