Tim,

we have your E38 in the shop & Wael is working away like a busy bee on her. I'll take some photos tomorrow & post them on this thread.

PS: Cindy will be using one of my bimmers next week for the day when we do a few odds & ends on the 528iT. (It won't be the M6, unfortunately, its still not ready to be driven. So little time.................)

I completely missed this thread until Cindy told me about it!

Thanks Alan. I can't wait to get her back. She will be ready tomorrow, right??? I'll be coming in from Birmingham after lunch and should be at your shop between 4:00 and 5:00.

As for what's being done.... Mostly mechanical fixes, though I'm hoping that the BMW fairy slips in and paints my valve covers for me.....

Tim, the valve covers will be squeaky clean, but I would prefer to powder coat them for you. My friend Mark (Reynard38) with the E30 beast has a powder coating setup but he has been working his buns off lately. The next time we have the E38 in, lets try to set something up with him & we'll coat them the color of your choice. I'll remove & install them for you on the house, in view of all the work we're doing right now on her.

Yeah!! I got my car back from Alan this afternoon. Many thanks to him and Wael for all the work they put it on it. It looks and runs great. All those pesky E38 issues have been taken care of and all I need to do now is continue working on some more cosmetic stuff.

If you want someone to look at your car and treat it like it was their own, go see Alan and Wael. They explain everything in terms you can understand and do things the right way. Thanks a bunch guys!!

Ha! That drive home on 400, 285 and 20 probably took care of that for me! I was feathering the brakes for an hour and a half.

I'll get out tomorrow with a bucket of water and see what I can do to clean it up. I can't wait to see the pictures from the work you did.

I'm afraid that I left the camera at the shop, so it will have to wait until Monday to upload the photos:Senior moment:mad:( I'm leaving for Alabama this evening for the weekend)

So far, so good! I took Sieben on a 300 mile journey to eastern KY this morning. Nothing but smiles to report. She ran strong, especially up the mountain runs. I've never owned a V8 before, but it is amazing how powerful these M62 engines are.

I was just taking my time, enjoying the scenery and this dude in a huge pickup truck came barrelling up behind me. Luckily, I saw him coming in enough time to step on it and leave him in the dust going up a steep grade. What a feeling!!

For the record Alan, that knock is still there. It really sounds like it is coming from the rear end somewhere. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there was a body in the trunk.... It happens randomly as I'm coming up through the gears. Sometimes louder than others. I'll take you for a ride the next time I see you and maybe you can figure it out.

I was wondering what happened to Wael:confused: He's been missing since last week:)

Tim, we'll find it. Let me know when you have time.

Bodies? In the trunk? I wouldn't know anything about that. And even if I didn't, I wouldn't have gotten the idea from the diagram Mitch showed us in his trunk. No really. I swear it's just four golf bags like BMW instructed us to put in the trunk. :icon18:

Can't say this your problem but here is one I found on the E36. I kept hearing a light banging going over bumps and sometimes turning. It turns out my exhaust wasn't centered and it would knock on the heat shield near the back of the car. There is some slider type setup and it just needs to adjusted a little.
I hope it is something minor like the above.

I found Wael! It was him in the trunk.... Installing my new nitrous package!! LOL!!!

The car ran great again today. I took it through some pretty good twisties between London and Hazard - Kentucky. The suspension feels great. I didn't over do it - just nice smooth corners. The ride did make me miss my MINI though....:(

Alan,

I was doing some modifications to my headlights this evening and found three threaded pieces sitting on top of the headlights that look like leftovers from the work Wael did on the 740. Here is a photo:

They look worn and were probably something you replaced, but I wanted to make sure. Can I just toss them?

Yup. We are bringing both cars. No big deal or need to be embarrassed. I thought they were something I had left in there for a minute....
