I'm beginning the get the feeling my E38 is cursed. First, she got hit less than a week after I got her. Fixed that and discovered she has a pretty bad coolant leak that will require a valley pan replacement along with several other maintenance issues typical of a 10 year old E38.

Then, driving to Cindy's mom's for Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, the stupid serpentine belt came off when the tensioner pulley broke. I was able to get that fixed by the guy who towed it in for me, but I'm almost afraid the drive the thing now.

Thank goodness, she is going in to GCR on Wednesday to get a bunch of work done that I'm hoping takes care of everything for a while. Alan, I'm counting on you man!!!

Sorry to hear all your woes. My belt broke after I left the dealership (picking up parts) on my way to the office about 2 months ago. Luckily, I took a local route to the office and not the highway..

Also, I think I also might be suffering the CCV (Valley Pan) malady; not leaking coolant, but burning about a quart every 2 weeks!! Good luck with yours, I'll be on list to see Alan as well.. Be prepared Alan, we're coming for you!!! :)

Tim,

the E38 is just looking for some attention:) We'll make her run like a new one. My repeat customers know that during the course of repairs, we'll often throw in a few odds & ends gratis that make the finished product just that much better.....:icon18:

BMR,

if you're not leaking coolant, the valley plate is probably OK, most likely the diaphragm in the rear cover on the intake manifold. Pro's & cons by just doing the plate though, if the car has more than 80k miles, & you want to keep it for a while, you're better off doing the whole 9 yards, including valley plate & knock sensors. If you don't, you'll be doing it in stages & it will mean more labor outlay, albeit spread over a longer period of time.

Alan.

Ah, the very reason(s) I just sold mine. It was starting to act very strange, performance wise and I knew of the expense to maintain the car. I will always keep my six though.
Good luck with the repairs Mr T.

You have no idea how close I came to sending her to the scrap heap this weekend!! LOL! But, I decided that in Alan's caring hands, she would soon be back in top condition.

I'll certainly keep everyone posted!
