Whats a L6?

I was looking at cars on e bay came across a 1987 6er, Number on trunk reads L6. They said its a rare car. What does L6 stand for?

E24 - The L6 was a luxury version only available in the US and in automatic form. In the UK it was called the 635CSi Highline and some manual cars were made. This car had a leather head lining, leather door skins, leather dashboard, etc. This car had an extremely luxurious interior, it was 450kg heaver, and yet only had a 182 bhp engine!

Approx 1100 world wide were made, and of that only (approx) 492 were imported to to the US. Of those less than 100 still exist in a driveable state (I have one!!! YAY!).

The weight difference is not that big a factor though, in my opinion. However, I do not race mine around. I drive slower than my grandmother used to, well, except for the occassional Sunday morning excursion done down the expressway when no-ones around.

Yes, it has a small cooler in back between the rear seats, which doubles as an armrest to put it in perspective. However, I believe there were other non-L6 models that had that option as well. I could be wrong on that. The only issue is that because of the ALL leather interior, you have to spend a lot of time to treat the leather to keep it from curling and disfiguring. So, mine lives like a vampire and stays in the garage, out of the sun WHENEVER possible. This and my compulsive treatment of the interior leather has kept it in good shape.

I love the lotus white interior. perfect color combo with the black exterior.

Most of the L6's have had dash panels replaced by now. The leather was not the greatest idea in terms of longevity. The sun would kill them pretty quick. The replacements, even under warranty, were the regular vinyl variety.
