Brand new here, looks like a lot of Atlanta guys which is cool since I live in Canton.
Looking at upgrading to BSW speakers (Rainbow Audio Components) - anyone done this and have an opinion?
The other option is to just add a small sub in the trunk.
Either way, something needs to be done to improve this sound system. I'm not looking for a ghetto blaster, just something that sounds a little better than the subpar factory speakers.
i threw some decent 2-12s in the trunk. its perfect for me - i have the gain pretty low, but when i want to listen to some loud stuff, it bumps pretty loudly! it didnt cost me much (i had the 2-12s and an amp just sitting around) so i was a fan of this option.
are you planning on a diy or having it done? that would make a difference to me.

All depends on what you are looking for. And I completely agree, especially the front door tweeters in the E39, they are horrid. If you go with the BSW Stage 1, spring for the IQ set - the larger 25mm tweeter alone is WELL worth it over the Cal20 that comes with the standard setup.

I am planning on DIY if I go with BSW, but would need some help if I go with a sub (unless I did BassLink which has a ton of DIY posts for this car).

Welcome! And keep us posted on what you do. I need to upgrade my E38 as well. I've got a bad speaker in the passenger door that is driving me crazy.

I've considered BSW Stage 1 as well. I don't want major bass anymore (3 10's in my last coupe) as I won't really use it. I want very very clear sound with a little bit of bump in the trunk if I need it. I am interested to know how this turns out for you.

Anyone in here have any further questions about BSW? I know this is old but stumbled upon this thread. Would be happy to provide assistance.
Carma do you stock any Rainbow Drivers?

Hey Halston,
We discussed front speakers on bf.c a while back. I was wondering if your stage 1 E34 speakers came with a x-over of would I have to build my own?? My system is completely aftermarket and would like to have my tweeters in my doors work. Right now I have a 2 way component set in there with some custom mounted cliff design tweeters where the 2.5" speaker goes. I did this because NO ONE makes a 2.5" speaker that fits in there.
Also, clubbimmer members get a discount?? :) :) :) Had to ask :)

I can get crossovers but eliminate the midrange if you are amping. Not worth it. Run a nice 2 way :)

I'm already running a nice set of 2 way components. Oh well. Any plans on coming out with an amped version?

That's cool.
Here is what I have in place of the 2.5" speakers. I cleaned around the tweeter after the fact, go figure :) They are 1" silk dome tweeters that when they reflect off the windshield are extremely loud, lol. They sound clear and crisp at high volumes. I do not know if this will work in an E39, but in any E34 these fit perfectly in there.

That works great. Midbass location is stock with nothing in the tweeter housing in the door?
Did you try to place them in the tweeter housing. IIRC that would put them more equal distance from the midbass to the ear. More so than the dash. I could be wrong though haha

I actually took the old mid bass driver, used a dremel to cut off the basket and a razor blade to cut off the surround. The Cliff tweeter fell in there like it was made for that location. I have a mid-bass driver in the kick panel in the stock enclosure that BMW put in there for the original speakers.
Almost everything that I installed in that car dealing with the audio is somewhat of a custom deal. I have 6.5" Alpines in the rear deck that provide a bit more mid bass then the standard 5.25" speaker. That entire car was an adventure because I came up with a lot of that stuff as I was running wire and whatnot.

Thats cool!
What is really cool about it is that it was my first "real" install. Meaning that if I messed up, it was on my own car, lol. It went well.
