I pass these self serve car wash bays near my house, are these safe enough to use without scratching the heck outta the paint or burning the wax off?

If you had to, I would siggest thoroughly rinsing off that brush with the high pressure water/rinse hose thingy.

I have seen many an SUV or filthy truck use those places and they're caked with mud, and of course just use the brush on all that crap! So be forewarned! :)

Normally I just go through the touchless, pay 11 bucks and have them clean everything with those big ol machines with the pink, green and blue goo. Those self-service ones, especially the ones where you just feed it quarters tend to rack up some change because you just keep feeding them and feeding them with no real regard to how much you're spending, before you know it, you've spent 5 bucks and for 2 bucks LESS you could have went through full service.

I don't do automatic car washes anymore. Owning a MINI cured me. I'll keep washing mine with a bucket of water from the sink as long as I have to. Not the greatest method, but it beats having something damaged by a rogue machine (too many horror stories).

I use the self washes. I always spray the hell out of the brush. Even though my paint is not in the best of shape, why make it worse...
